How does shockwave therapy work?

A wand held by an experienced practitioner and directed to exact area of concern administers a low frequency radial shockwave from the tip of the device.

A gel is required to act as a conduit and the total treatment time usually takes between 5 and 10 minutes.

Most customers feel instant pain relief after therapy, others can take up to 4-5 sessions to achieve similar results. Even the customers who experience immediate relief still need between 3-5 sessions to get long lasting results.

The shockwaves stimulate the body’s natural healing process which continues it’s work up to 8 weeks after the course of shockwave treatments.

You will also receive a remedy routine which involves advice on how to manage your condition and may include rehab exercises which will minimise re-injury.

Shockwave Therapy vs. Cortisone Injection

Shockwave Therapy is a great alternative to Cortisone Injections. We recommend trying shockwave therapy before cortisone due to the reduced risks of shockwave therapy.

Cortisone injections can have a number of side effects including weakening of the tendon and local tissue damage. Some people don’t get any relief from injections and others find the benefit is not long lasting.

Shockwave Therapy on the other hand is non invasive and does not pose the same risk of side effects.

What is the cost of Shockwave Therapy?

Shockwave Therapy as a standalone treatment is $110 for your first session and $100 there after. It is cheaper if you combine it with a Myotherapy treatment and we also have packs available if you’d like to invest in your required treatment plan up front.

As your sessions are booked with degree qualified Clinical Myotherapists, rebates through private health, workcover or NDIS may be available.
