Simply kneel on a chair then, keeping your back straight, lunge forward to the first point of resistance. You can try a repeated movement or you can hold it. CR (contract and relax) is a type of PNF stretchin

CR (contract and relax) is a type of PNF stretching. It is a method utilised to increase ROM and flexibility. CR stretching increases ROM by increasing the length of the muscle and increasing neuromuscular efficiency. CR stretching has been found to increase ROM in trained, as well as untrained, individuals.

Heres how you do it -
1. Contract the muscle without moving (also called isometric), such as pushing gently against the stretch without actually moving.
2. Relax and stretch!

Dwan studied her Bachelor of Health Science - Clinical Myotherapy degree at Southern School of Natural Therapies. Since then she's also studied the McKenzie Technique for managing joint related pain especially for backs and necks; scoliosis courses to enhance her skills around her passion of treating children and adults with scoliosis and she's studied Strength & Conditioning as she loves helping people through movement by looking for faults in the movement, correcting and strengthening.

Why do people seek Dwan's advice? Her patients recommend her for working with kids due to her great ability to connect with them and get them to actually do their corrective exercises; they recommend her for treating scoliosis as she has been through this herself and has great knowledge around how to treat, when to treat and when to refer on; they recommend her to friends who need help getting out of pain and progressing their chosen sport or activity, especially for runners, gym goers and dancers.

Difficulty breathing?

RULE OUT: Any breathing difficulties should be taken seriously. Please rule out medical conditions first by seeing your doctor.

WHY: It may be tightness in your mid back muscles and neck muscles. Another potential cause may be your breathing technique and lack of movement in your back and neck.

REMEDY: Try taking some slow deep breaths while lying face down with a pilates mat or pillow under your rib cage. This will force your breath into the back of the ribs and help expand the rib cage. Try imagining the breath blowing up 2 balloons in your upper back area.

Is your hip pain coming from your back/ pelvis or hip?WHY: Most of the time it is due to the joint sitting in a wrong position in its socket and or the tendons around it being inflamed and over worked because the muscle of that tendon is too weak. We also see it as a major #backpain contributor. TIP - Spiky ball - Gluteal muscles, around the hip and hip flexors. Having a break over Christmas and New Year feels great at the time, but our bodies can suffer as we get back into the swing of our regular computer routine. Apart from having a great desk set up (which we would be more than happy to help with), movement therapy can also be very helpful. What's awesome about this, is that you don't necessarily need to come in for treatment, we can do a session online if it suits you better!First step is finding the right movement to help calm down the pain and contraction. It's back into the swing of it with most of us heading back to work now. If you're not back at work just yet, you're probably looking at the long list of things you "didn't" achieve during your break.
